FAQ

Common questions.

DMX Viewer shows no data.

Make sure your iPhone or iPad is on the same Wi-Fi (or wired Ethernet) as the lighting console. Tap Listen to start.

The app listens on UDP port 5568 (sACN) and 6454 (ArtNet). Your console must be sending sACN to the multicast range 239.255.x.x for the receiver to see it. The network banner at the top of the screen shows your current network and IP, so you can verify they match the console's network.

Network Devices finds no devices.

When first prompted, tap Allow to grant local network access. The scanner automatically searches all subnets your device sees.

For multi-subnet rigs, tap the shield icon in the toolbar to add additional subnets manually. You can switch between List, Map, and Ping views using the segmented control at the top.

Fixture Library: can I browse without an account?

You can search and browse the full fixture index without signing in. Thousands of fixtures from hundreds of manufacturers. To download a fixture file or view its full specifications, you'll need a free GDTF Share account.

Create one at gdtf-share.com and sign in from the Fixture Library tab.

Fixture Library won't log in.

Use your GDTF Share credentials, not an Apple ID or any other account. Your account must be created at gdtf-share.com directly.

If login fails, sign out and back in from the person icon in the top-right of the Fixture Library tab. Credentials are stored in iOS Keychain so you'll only need to enter them once per device.

Quick Plots export looks different from what I see on screen.

Make sure your canvas size matches your background. When you import a PDF, the canvas auto-sizes to that page. For photos or Map Shot backgrounds, the canvas resizes to a 48-inch long-side default. You can change it manually via the page-size icon inside the plot editor.

How do I place a GDTF fixture on a plot?

Search for the fixture in the Fixture Library and tap to download it (free GDTF Share account required). Open a lighting plot, then tap the symbol picker. Your downloaded fixtures appear in the From Library section.

If the fixture has a manufacturer thumbnail, that image is used as the symbol on the plot.

What syncs to iCloud?

When iCloud Sync is enabled in Settings, the following sync across every device signed into the same Apple ID:

Lighting plots, topology maps, network maps, saved scan profiles, pre-scan device labels, scout notes, fixture favorites, and your settings (default units, paper size, ping monitor preferences, etc.).

iCloud Sync is opt-in and can be turned off any time in Settings.

What devices and iOS versions are supported?

iPhone running iOS 17.6 or later, and iPad running iPadOS 17.6 or later. The iPad layout includes a sidebar, left tool strip, and right context panel; the iPhone layout uses a bottom tab bar. Apple Pencil is supported on iPad for plot drawing and scout-photo markup.

How do I report a bug?

The fastest path is TestFlight feedback. Take a screenshot inside the app, then tap Share Feedback in TestFlight. iOS attaches your device model, OS version, and build number automatically.

If TestFlight feedback isn't an option, email jonathan@stage-tools.net with: device model, iOS version, build number (Settings → About in the app), and the steps to reproduce.
